MORELANDS GROUP

Formed in April 2021 with the goal of preserving, protecting, and advocating for the residential Moreland corridor of the Shaker Square neighborhood by engaging tenants, owners, and managers in the life of the neighborhood.

Building Code Compliance

This committee works with city and service authorities to tackle emergency conditions including loss of heat and utility service, health and safety conditions in apartment buildings. The committee’s work plan has identified more than 30 severely neglected apartment buildings. 
 

Beautification

This committee works on beautification and maintenance of the local neighborhood including organizing clean-ups of Helen Simpson Park. The group works with area pastors and congregations for litter removal. 
 

Tenant Outreach

This committee hosted a successful workshop on Tenants Rights lead by the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland. The committee is preparing a Tenants Guide to Rights and Services. This committee is building a network of tenant outreach residents. 
 

Safety and Security

This committee will soon unveil a strategic safety initiative in conjunction with the Fourth District Police Department. This will bring enhanced safety resources to the apartment corridor. 
 

Owner Engagement

This committee is working to bring together beneficial apartment owners who will show the way for all owners to commit to property upkeep and beautification. 
 

Research

 This committee provides research of resources, violations, and court activity, along with successful strategies learned by other such groups. 
 

Housing Policy

This ad hoc committee is working to explore housing policy initiatives.
