"I was told we couldn't stay together as a family"
We have been at the shelter in Cleveland for a month. I had to stay at the men’s shelter and my wife at the women’s shelter. During the intake I asked if we could stick together because we are legally married and she had no income without me. I was asked if we had any children and I told them that we do and that they are staying with family. I was told we couldn’t stay together as a family because our children aren’t with us. She can’t work because she cannot apply for a job without a social security card.
She applied for one and used the women’s shelter as a mailing address. She applied for it on the 13th of September and by the 29th she had not received it. She did not get any help from the Women’s Shelter staff. She also hasn’t gotten her medicaid card yet. It has been two weeks. I also had a problem with my social security payment not being put on my card. I have been trying to get that straightened out. I went back to the Social Security office three times. When I called I had to wait 1 hr and 15 minutes to speak with someone. He didn’t know who the case manager was and has been there for a month. My wife hasn’t gotten any help from the staff/Case Manager at the women’s shelter as well.
